Travel Insurance offers cover for loss or theft of your personal belongings including your baggage, passport, personal money or travel documents.
Cancellation
Travel Insurance can cover trip cancellations for reasons such as unforeseen emergencies as illness, injury or death of you, your traveling companion and/or a relative. The cover does not include cancellation due to business obligations, change of mind or your dislike of the travel time. In addition, pre-existing medical conditions are not covered. Remember this cover starts from the moment you buy your travel insurance, so it’s important to buy it once your trip is booked.
Adventure Travelers
First Ireland offers insurance options for adventure or sports travellers. You have the options of winter sports travel insurance, ski travel insurance or backpackers travel insurance. Your travel insurance can also cover medical expenses related to injuries or unexpected illness.
24-Hour Medical Emergency Assistance
It is important that you refer to the terms and conditions of your own policy document for full details of cover that applies to your policy. In the event of a medical emergency, and where you have the appropriate cover, then you must contact AIG emergency service on +44 (0) 1273 723 146 as quickly as possible. They operate a 24 hour service, 365 days a year.
In the case of an emergency and where you are physically unable to contact them as a result of that emergency, then you or someone appointed by you must contact them within 48 hours, otherwise your claim may not be paid. You must get the prior authorisation of AIG before acquiring any expenses over €700, curtailing or extending your trip due to bodily injury or illness.

Single Trip
Single trip insurance is best if you’re planning a one-off trip. We recommend you arrange your travel insurance when you book your holiday as cancellation cover applies from the time you pay your premium! Don’t worry if your return to Ireland is unavoidably delayed as once the circumstance is covered by your policy, then your cover date will automatically extend for the period of your delay. Long-stay travel insurance up to 365 days is also available as part of our single trip insurance options.
