That time of year once again, almost time to look for a sprig of Shamrock to pin to your jumper. As we know St. Patrick’s Day is one of the busiest days in the calendar in Ireland. With so many heading out to celebrate, as well as those coming in from distant shores, things can tend to get a little hectic. This is especially true in the more built-up areas of the country. The St. Patrick’s Day Festival has already kicked off around the city and is set to continue throughout the weekend. The obvious thing to see here is the parade but there is so much more going on around the city. With everything going on it can be difficult to choose what to do. That’s why we’ve picked out a few highlights for you.

Festival Village (Merrion Square)

Over the whole weekend Merrion Square will be home to the Festival Village, which will be bustling with food, events, shows and workshops for the whole family. Improve your Irish with the Village’s mini Gaeltacht area, shake a leg in the Céilí Mór or simply have a wander around and sample some of the wonderful food on offer at the World Food Market.

City at Play Funfairs (Custom House Quay)

Looking for a quick thrill? Look no further than the St Patricks Day Festival Funfair. Waltzers, bumper cars and more, plenty to keep the whole family happy, and all against the backdrop of the Custom House, all done up in green!

Sober St Patrick’s Day (Temple Bar)

It’s no secret that St. Patrick’s Day and alcohol have quite a…close relationship. That doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate if you happen to be off the sauce. Now in its third year Sober St. Patricks Day takes place in the Clockwork Door in Temple Bar and features a host of live performances and workshops.

EPIC: Across the Waves – The Seafaring Irish Exhibition (Custom House Quay)

The Irish Emigration Museum hosts a fascinating exhibition detailing what life was like for seafaring Irish men, women and children over the centuries, whether they were emigrants looking for a better life or merchants in search of earning a living.
